Karamea

Our first day of riding ended at Karamea, on the west coast of New Zealand.  Normally it's quite rainy here, but we were lucky the whole trip and only get the lightest sprinkles of rain while we were riding.  Here we are on the beach!

We took a short tour of the area near the beach, including crossing this great bridge:

This area was a nice, wet rainforest:

One of the places Ian took us while we were in Karama was the Oparara Arch in Karamea.  Notice the tent in the left hand photo!

We also went on a tour of the "honeycomb caves" near Karamea.  They were only discovered in 1975, by the spelunking club.   Here's most of our group in the honeycomb caves - Alison, Mike, Ian, Steve, the cave guy, Patrick, and Diane.
