This is the only gold-colored lion we saw in China. Pretty much all lions come in pairs, with the female on the right (as you face out from the building), almost always with a baby lion, and the male on the left. This is a pretty good close-up of a female and baby. The metal instead of stone resulted in really nice sharp claws.
Important buildings often have animals on the roofs. The type and number of animals is related to how important the building is.
After the Forbidden City, Cielo takes a ride on Vernon's shoulders, with Nana in the background. You almost never see young Chinese children riding on parents' shoulders, because most of them wear (several layers of) split-bottom pants, through which they can pee or poop freely. You don't want that on your shoulders.
