Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is in a slightly cooler part of Beijing, which is why the emperor would go there in the summer. It's built next to a large lake, and has a lot of shade and some nice breezes through its hills. It seems to be a nice-day hangout for a lot of locals, not just for tourists, although the tourists are plentiful.

Cielo, like many toddlers, enjoys pushing her own stroller. During this trip, she grew tall enough to push it using the handles instead of pushing the storage basket underneath.

Here are some actual Chinese children doing Chinese jump rope. It's hard to fully appreciate in still pictures. The best one we saw was where two girls had the rope around the necks and the girls in the middle were still reaching up and grabbing the elastic rope with their ankles.

This is a picture of the big temple at the Summer Palace.

There are lots of these shaded walkways around the Summer Palace. You can see the (restored) very colorful ceilings and beams.
